Director of Football - Damien Comolli
1st Choice: Tim Krul - Fantastic young GK, brilliant Reflexes and at One on One's.
Other: Steve Harper
Deadwood: Rob Elliot, Jak Alnwick
Positional Rating: 5/10 - One very good Keeper, one Aging one and 2 lower league one's, needs some cover to be bought in.
1st Choice: Danny Simpson - A decent defender, unlikely to take the club to new heights
Other: Ryan Taylor, James Tavernier
Positional Rating: 4/10 - Decent cover, my suggestion to to retrain Santon for the position
1st Choice: Coloccini - Captain fantastic, a solid defender, although his high wage bill is something to think about.
Key Players: Steven Taylor
Other: Mike Williamson, Curtis Good, Remie Streete
Positional Rating: 7/10 - Some good central defenders, with decent young back-up.
1st Choice: Davide Santon - One of the only players who might be able to do a decent job in an accomplished postion for him.
Deadwood: Paul Dummett
Positional Rating: 4/10 - With no naturally left footed LB at the club, this is the one position that needs a new player brought in, I suggest retraining Santon for RB and buying a LB
1st Choice: Hatem Ben Arfa - Dribbling, Creativity, Determination, Technique are some of Ben Arfa's best stats, with the ability to turn games around he is a must have in any team
Other: Gabriel Obertan
Positional Rating: 6/10 - While this position has one of the best players in the Newcastle squad it also has the most frustrating player, Obertan can excite even the most bored spectator but his final ball into the box can annoy the most honest of football fans.
1st Choice: Cheike Tiote - A solid player who can play in either CM or DM.
Other: James Perch, Vernon Anita
Positional Rating: 8/10 - Tiote is a fantastic DM, and with Perch and Anita as cover this is one of the best covered positions in the Newcastle squad
1st Choice: Yohan Cabaye - Your playmaker, he will be a key member of your engine room.
Key Players: Cheike Tiote
Other: Dan Gosling, Mehdi Abeid, Gael Bigirimana
Deadwood: Bradden Inman, Conor Newton, Liam Henderson, Michael Richardson, Brandon Miele
Positional Rating: 8/10 - Cabaye is certainly a special player, with Anita and Tiote being able to play in the CM role this certainly is a well covered position. Young Bigirimana has the potential to match Cabaye, plenty of match time and training will see him over take Cabaye for the future.
1st Choice: Romain Amalfitano - A decent young player
Other: Haris Vuckic
Positional Rating: 5/10 - I recommend that you don't use the AM role in your tactic despite there being some good cover for the position
1st Choice: Jonas Guitierrez - A very good player who has the ability to run at defenses
Other: Sylvain Marveaux, Shane Ferguson
Deadwood: Yven Moyo, Sammy Ameobi
Positional Rating: 7/10 - Pretty well covered, young Ferguson has the potential and should be given the opportunity.
1st Choice: Pappis Demba Cisse - A mastermind when you your tactics right, he'll score however you want him to score.
Key Players: Demba Ba
Other: Shola Ameobi, Adam Campbell
Deadwood: Nile Ranger, Xisco, JJ Hooper, Marux Maddison
Positional Rating: 7/10 - Two of the best strikers in the league if you can get them working together, Campbell is young and should be exposed to as much First Team football and tutoring and he'll surprise you in such a short space of time. I would bring in another striker to replace Sh.Ameobi though
Away on Loan:
Paul Dummett - St. Mirren - Returns End of December 2012
Adam Campbell -
At only 17 he has the world at his feet, given a tutor in Ba and training with the first team he can become the next Newcastle #9, ensure he gets lots of game time with the first team, whether it is in cup games or sub appearances
Haris Vuckic -
Given the right training and guidence Vuckic could become a decent player, I suggest retraining him for a CM role
Davide Santon -
Certainly has the potential, but needs the right training and a mentor to give him that little bit extra. Make sure he gets lots of game time.
Reemie Streete -
Has more potential that Colo, so given the right tutoring and game time he can become a solid CB at Newcastle
Newcastle's biggest weakness is at the full back position, Santon has the potential so be patient with him, I suggest switching him over to RB and bringing in a naturally left footed LB.
Demba Ba has a 7m release clause, I'd consider offering him a new contract to remove that, but you will be playing a lot more on the wages front to what he is on now.
Prices may vary each game.
Goal Keepers: Alex Smithies
Left Backs: Neil Taylor
Strikers: Kevin Gameiro, Federico Macheda (Loan, 40k p/m, 100% wages)
Having achieved 5th place last season it will be quite a challenge to achieve that in FM with this Newcastle Team, if you get your tactics right and keep the players happy I believe it is possible. For the real challenge I suggest starting the game without first window transfer budgets, it forces you into using the likes of Campbell, Ferguson and Streete. I have played as Newcastle with the Beta and while the ME had it's bugs we finised 2nd and 4th in the two completed seasons. Campbell has become quite the rising star, as has Streete.
I wish you all the best and hope you have found this guide helpful.
